Ovulation Induction (OI)

A simpler treatment approach for female infertility

If you’re producing low levels of hormones for ovulation, or if you’re not ovulating at all, Ovulation Induction (OI) may be recommended before trying more advanced treatments such as IVF. Ovulation Induction is also sometimes referred to as Super Ovulation (SO).

During Ovulation Induction, you’ll take a course of medication (such as tablets or injections) to stimulate your hormones. This helps your eggs to form and develop, and can significantly increase your chance of conceiving naturally, or through artificial insemination (IUI).

Typically, you will be prescribed an oral medicine, and you may also have a series of injections of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). We time your medication to match your menstrual cycle:

  • Day 1 (first day of bleeding) – arrange a blood test with our centre
  • Day 2-5 – start taking the medication as per your specialist’s instructions
  • Day 10 or 11 – visit the centre again to check your hormone levels with a blood test
  • Day 14 – an ultrasound test will check if you’re about to ovulate
