A small percentage of people will experience more than one consecutive miscarriage, and if you have three or more consecutive early pregnancy losses this is called recurrent miscarriage, and you should seek specialist help from a Virtus Fertility Centre specialist to work out possible causes – and minimise the risk of it happening again.
What causes a miscarriage?
Some causes of miscarriage include:
- Chromosome or genetic variations
- Uterine abnormalities
- Immune causes
- Blood clotting disorders
- Hormone imbalances
Age is also an important factor. After a woman has turned 43, there is a 50% chance a pregnancy will spontaneously miscarry.
Emotional support for miscarriage
Virtus Fertility Centre offers a unique counselling service, which includes support for all IVF patients as well as specialist counselling for our donor programmes and genetic testing. Our fertility coaching and counselling service focuses on two key areas of support - counselling for any past events (including coping with grief and loss after miscarriage) and coaching for the future treatment - how to stay calm and positive.
