Male Fertility Tests
Analysing Sperm to Assess Male Fertility
It may surprise you to learn that as many as 40% of the couples with fertility concerns have an influencing factor from the man’s side. Our male infertility and andrology services can help to diagnose the issues, such as poor quality sperm or low levels of male sex hormones. After gaining a thorough understanding of the cause of your infertility, your fertility specialist will then develop the best treatment plan to help you have a baby.
Semen analysis is the most common and important male fertility test. This looks at sperm number, motility (ability to move), morphology (size and shape) and other aspects of your sample. You can provide us with this sample in a private room in our centre or bring it to us in a sterile dry container within one hour of ejaculation. A semen analysis through Virtus Fertility Centre Singapore is conducted onsite by our expert andrologists for an optimum analysis.
After your initial semen analysis, we may need to do more tests to check if any initial problems are a one-off or persistent issue.
Sperm Chromatin Dispersion (SCD) Test
Sperm Chromatin Dispersion (SCD) Assay is a test available at Virtus Fertility Centre Singapore, which detects issues with sperm DNA fragmentation.
Other than its primary role in fertilising the egg, the sperm plays significant influence over the quality of embryos, implantation and a successful pregnancy. Sperm whose DNA integrity is damaged can fertilise an egg but produce embryos of poor quality and result in pregnancy loss.
The good news is our treatments can overcome most issues with male fertility and give you the best chance of having a baby using your own sperm. For example, a good quality sperm can be selected by assessing its morphology under high magnification prior to injecting into the egg. This is known as Intracytoplasmic Morphologically-selected Sperm Injection (IMSI).
Treatments to Overcome Male Infertility
Treatments to overcome male fertility issues include ICSI (IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection) or IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically-selected Sperm Injection) with IVF treatment, and medications.
