Try these yoga poses to release upper-body tension.
Feeling stressed? These poses should help release tension, says yoga instructor Valerie Saindorn. They all focus on your upper body – meaning anything from your neck to your shoulders, arms, back and torso.
“This session will have a feel-good effect on you,” says Valerie. “Try to remember to always breathe in and out through your nose.”
RUNNERS LUNGE TWIST 1
This pose builds strength and flexibility. “This will strengthen your lower back and legs as well as giving your spine a deep twist,” says Valerie. “This pose also helps release stress from your body and increase energy and vitality.” Make it easier by dropping your back knee to the ground.
RUNNERS LUNGE TWIST 2
This is a reverse of runners lunge twist 1. By twisting to the other side, you’ll be deepening the stretch into your lower back, legs and spine.
SIDE OF BODY STRETCHES
Stretching the side of the body will loosen up your spine and release tension. “You can never do too many of these, especially if you are spending a fair bit of time sitting at work or in your car,” says Valerie.
